On Wednesday, May 3, the Cumberland Foundation recognized nearly 100 Cumberland County high school students on track for their 4th certificate to achieve a School Counts! scholarship to RCSJ. The School Counts! scholarship program is in its 23rd year and continues to grow in support and scholarship awards each year. To receive a School Counts! certificate a student needs to do four things:
1. Maintain a grade of ‘C’ or better in every course
2. Hold a 95% attendance record each year of high school
3. Take more courses than the minimum required including Algebra I
4. Complete high school in four years.

By achieving the School Counts! benchmarks, the students with us tonight have demonstrated that they are reliable, do quality work, do more than expected, and finish what they start. These are all characteristics which will assist them with succeeding in life. The concept is that if students demonstrate the four characteristics of attendance, rigor, quality and persistence, they would earn a certificate which indicates they are work ready. Over 400 businesses participate in School Counts! and eager to support the program each year through the School Counts! Golf Classic and other fundraisers throughout the year. The School Counts! scholarship was created by the Cumberland County Campus Educational Foundation in 2001 with the foresight to see the power of this program.
